Parents, swimmers and divers!
I hope everyone is having a good holiday season and is ready for Christmas, Merry Christmas to all! We have an opportunity to work two concession shifts (that are about 3 hours each) that would raise money for the team fund. The first shift is 2/25 and would be a girls game and the second shift is 3/4 and would be a boys game. More details to come on times of these shift. If you could sign up here by the 1st of January that would be great!

Warm Ups!
- I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving with family and ate a lot of wonderful food! I think we can all be thankful for such a fun and successful season we had this year.
- Congrats to the football team who won a state championship last night, what an exciting game!!!!!
- Warm Ups:
- Girls I have quote a few missing warm ups after counting them all today! Please get them to the athletic office by Friday and I will collect them. If you have misplaced a jacket or pair of pants hopefully they will turn up by Friday from a teammate. I have a list of who had what number so I will contact you by next weekend to let you know if I am missing yours. They were really nice warm ups so we need to make sure we get them all back and don't have to charge anyone for any missing ones. (:
- Bible study:
- We are also looking to start a Bible Study that will be headed up by coach Briana, so make sure you check out Facebook for the details. Sunday afternoon is looking to work out the best for most people that are interested.

Banquet and State Meet Schedule
Parents, Swimmers and Divers:
I first of all want to thank all the parents for being so supportive this season. You daughters could not get to every practice and get through all the hard work outs without you to vent too and drive them there. All the other coaches as well as myself were so proud of how hard all of the girls worked this season and it definitely paid off at conference. I also want you to give yourself a pat on the back as I got too many compliments from other coaches, swimmers and parents about the girls. They said all the girls swam and dove great and how much they can see how they are there for each other. That truly brings me joy!
The banquet after going back and forth with school and trying to fit it into as many people schedule as I could is going to be November 20th from 5:45-7:15. The school is not available on Monday and we have to make sure all the winter sports parents get to the meeting that night at 7:30. We are going to be doing desserts that night. So eat something before you come, and bring a dessert to pass!
State girls schedule for this week-

Tuesday- Practice 6-8
Wednesday- Practice 6-8 (dryland)
Thursday- Practice 6-8
Friday- Practice 5:30-7

Concessions
Parents, swimmers and divers!
Please take a look at the sheet I have shared and sign up sheet for the concessions next week. It will raise a great amount of money for the team. We still need 18 spots and if we don't get them by Monday we have to give up our spot to work concessions.

Saturday practice and updates
Parents,
I told the girls tonight that Calvin's pool and locker rooms close by no later than noon on Saturday due to events on campus. Practice will now be from 10-11:30. I know many girls have the PSAT. I will post a practice on Saturday morning for the girls to do sometime over the weekend. I know EGR has open swim as well as many other places (like the Forest Hills Aquatic Center).
The sleep over is tomorrow night at the Heys house. Please remember to bring sleeping items such as an air mattress, blankets, pillows, etc.

Team concessions and fundraising
The swim team has a great fundraising opportunity! We can "man" the concessions booth at a play off game and earn $400 or more- just in time for Conference items! Our scheduled date is Saturday, October 27. Currently we think the game will start at 1:00 with workers needed between 12:15 and 12:30. We should be done around 2:30 or 3:00.This will be the first game of the post season for our Eagles. Football concessions are a great way to meet other parents and the time just flies! We need 20 volunteers, and the swimmers may help! (We chose this date because it is the only option that does not conflict with practice or Conference meet.) Please email Jennifer Schroder at jennschroder@gmail.com to volunteer your time or sign up on the website. Stay warm, have fun, and support the swim team!

Schedule for the week of October 15th
Monday: Practice 6-8:30 (dry land)
Tuesday: Swim meet at Northview start time is 6:00pm. Girls need to meet at GRCH at 4:00. This is their senior night so it may take a bit longer, but there is food after! There will be no bus home.

Thursday: Catholic Central meet is CANCELLED! They overbooked their schedule so we will have practice this night from 6-8pm. After practice I know there is a team sleep over with details below.

Saturday: Tentatively plan on 12-2pm. I know half of the team is taking the PSAT so I will double check with Calvin on this.
Team sleep over:
The sleep over will take place at Abby Hey's house. If the girls could each bring $5.00 to cover pizza, snacks and breakfast. Also if everyone can bring an air mattress or pad to sleep on since the basement is not carpeted that would be great!
SARN:
Please email Patty Liverance with any pictures of the seniors for the senior high light video. Her email is- PLiverance@grcs.org

End of Season Banquet
Parents,
I know the end of season is still many weeks away, but we need to set up time with the school as to when we are hosting the end of season banquet. I am looking at that first week after the state meet either Monday or Tuesday around 6:30 (November 19 or 20). If you can email me by Sunday at 5:00pm to let me know if one of those times DOES NOT work. We will go with the date that the most families can make it to!

Camera Training
Attention parents!
Anyone who is interested in learning how to use the underwater camera to help video tape the team, please come to practice on Wednesday (10/3) at 5:45. Once trained you could help occasionally by taping swimmers. This is a great training tool for the team, but requires some extra time to set up and use. If a few could stay after training to tape tomorrow as well that would be great!
Thank you for your help and go EAGLES!

New 2 You
Parents!
A note from Kim VanHarn in regards to our New 2 you fundraiser is below.
We are still in need of a few volunteers for the New 2 You share program. We are doing Fridays in October from 4pm - 7pm. We need one person still for October 5th, two people for October 19th, and one male for October 26. This is a great fundraising opportunity for our team which would help us be able to do some nice things for the girls and coaches for the end of season. If you can take one of these shifts, please email me (Kim VanHarn) at vanharn5@sbcglobal.net.
Thanks,
Kim!

- Also attached is a letter containing instructions for booking a hotel room for the state swim meet which is being held at Eastern Michigan University this year. Some parents have reserved a block of rooms for parents and families at the Hampton Inn in Canton (thank you to Mark Swets!) There is a home U of M football game that weekend so Ypsilanti is booked solid. You will get a better rate if you use the attached instructions than the regular rate (code GRC). I would recommend that if anyone thinks there is a chance they might go to state reserve a room now. You don't have to pay up front and you can cancel up to 72 hours before with no cancellation fee. This block of room is being held until 10/31/12. Please feel free to ask any of the coaches or captains parents with any questions.

Meet results and thank you!
- Thanks to everyone for a great first meet under our belts last night! West Ottawa is a big team and we put up a fight. I have posted on the right tab of the blog the results from the swim meet (under "meet results" and then "West Ottawa").
- T-shirts: Parents who ordered an xxl or xxxl t-shirt I was told are an extra $2. If that is you please send $2 to Linda Heys (via Abby) and attach you name with it please! Linda also mentioned she has some cash and some people that have said they have paid and not sure who that is, if you could have your daughter verify with Abby at practice that would be great. The shirt order deadline is August 24th.
- Thanks again for bringing food to the swim meet for the girls parents. I also want to thank everyone on the behalf of myself and the EAB for supporting such a successful event last Thursday, it was a fun and beneficial night. The committee was "so thankful for the willingness and positive attitude toward the challenges showed the true character of the families that make up our school." The Grand Prize tickets to the Orlando game will be announced during our football game this Friday against South Christian.

Get in shape before season
Parents and swimmers,
If anyone is free tomorrow night (July 23) some girls are headed over to EGR High School Pool to swim from 7-9pm. Feel free to come and swim for how ever long you can make it. I think it is a couple of dollars to get in, so bring some cash.
They are also planning on swimming July 25th, July 30th and August 1st.
We have a couple of parents volunteering for the Eagle Extravaganza on the 16th. If anyone else is looking to help out let me know!

2012 Eagle Extravaganza
Dear parents, swimmer and divers:
The season is just around the corner starting August 8th. I have some information to share regarding how we can support the Eagle Athletic Boosters.
On Thursday evening, August 16, 2012, we have a fantastic opportunity to support athletics at Grand Rapids Christian at the Eagles All Sports Extravaganza. The evening will include food, games, fun, and outstanding prizes. However, an event like this needs a huge amount of parent and player support and visibility. Each team must provide a certain amount of parents and/or players to staff games and the team table. You will not have to serve the entire night, but rather one of two shifts, allowing you time to enjoy the great night and a chance to win some great prizes. ( A trip to Orlando, big screen TV, and many silent and service auction prizes) Although you are helping with the games or the table, everyone must be registered for the evening, which includes a fantastic dinner catered by BW3. Please contact Lavonne Smith in the Athletic Office to register. This is the largest fund raiser for Eagle athletics sponsored by the Eagle Athletic Boosters, and it only happens every three years. Please let me know of your willingness to help!
If you are interested in various sponsorship opportunities, I have a list of options I can email you. Please note that if you are interested in a sport-specific sponsorship, I will pass it onto the boosters.
Please let me know that you are willing to help by July 15 so I can forward your names to the committee. Thanks so much, and Go Eagles!

2012 Swim & Dive Season!
Parents, swimmers and divers:
The 2012 season is just around the corner and will be starting on August 8th. We will be practicing at Calvin College again, and are so thankful we are able to use their nice facility. Our practice Schedule is going to be about the same as last year, but has some changes. We are going to practice the first week from 6-8pm and then the following week Monday & Wednesday's will be from 6-8:30pm, Tuesday & Thursday will be from 6-8pm, Friday will start earlier at 5:30 due to our lovely football games and get out earlier if attendance is punctual that prior week. We will be having occasional Saturday practice as well from 10-12pm. I will hand out schedules the first day of practice and as you will notice there are not any morning practices on the schedule!
This season we are excited to have Christina and Kelsey back as coaches. Kelley unfortunately will be not be joining us this season, but will still be around here and there to help. I am finalizing a second assistant and will let you know as soon as everything is set in stone who that will be!
The captains will be sending out a letter to the whole team within the next couple of weeks about a cottage party and some fun activities that will be going on! If you love the Olympics, the trials start this Monday and here is the link to their psych sheet.
I look forward to another season and miss all of the girls. Make sure they are all in good standing for their physicals in the next month so come August 8th we are ready to go! If you have any questions do not hesitate to send me an email at alyssa.ludema@gmail.com.
GO EAGLES!

Summer Swimming
Parents and Swimmers,
I hope this finds you all in good spirits! I know that spring is going to be over before we know it, and summer is right around the corner. I would highly recommend getting involved in some summer swim program if at all possible. A lot of the girls do the Calvin College summer swim team that is a conditioning group right at Calvin College. Also East Grand Rapids Aquatics swim team has a conditioning group as well. This team is in the morning over at the East Grand Rapids High School (I help coach this club team out of the high school season).
If you have any questions or need any advice please feel free to email me - Alyssa.ludema@gmail.com.
